Carl Abken

Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1958.
Studied at the Art Students League of New York (1976) under Robert
Shultz and Robert Beverly Hale. Robert Hale was the curator of the
American Painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Carl then studied
under Lewis DiNardo at the Salmagundi Club of New York (1979). He then
began a career in commercial art and photography in both New York and
New Jersey. During this fourteen year span, Carl was a staff artist and
photographer at the Slide Center and Garraway Studios, where he applied
his experience and talent creating art for cosmetic and pharmaceutical
companies.

Recently, Carl left the East coast and moved to Alaska in 2010. Carl currently resides in Anchorage painting images of Alaska and Alaskana as well as doing professional art restoration. Carl has an impressionist style that captures the beauty in powerful landscapes and portraits. Known for his portraits of famous Americans as well as Native Americans Carl has completed commissions for renowned Alaskan's art collections.
